Why is a bamix® still in the kitchen after 30 years?

Welcome to the first part of our new blog series, "Behind the Scenes at bamix®".

Over the coming weeks, we’ll take you to places our customers normally never get to see. We’ll share stories from production, customer service and everyday life at bamix®. Honest, personal and full of facts that will surprise even long-time owners. Let’s start with a question that keeps coming up.

What is the oldest kitchen appliance in your kitchen?
Perhaps a coffee machine. Maybe your mother’s old hand mixer. Or perhaps there’s even a bamix® that has been faithfully serving you for decades. Sound unbelievable? For us, this is actually quite common. We regularly hear from customers whose bamix® has been with them for 20, 30 or even 40 years. Some appliances are used every day. Others are passed down from one generation to the next. And that always makes us smile. Because in a time when many electrical appliances are replaced after just a few years, every old bamix® has a story of its own.
Some time ago, a bamix® arrived with a little note:

“I didn’t really want to send it in. It still works, after all. I’d just like to have it checked so I can pass it on to my daughter later.”

Those words have stayed with us. Not because they were unusual, but because they express exactly what bamix® has stood for for decades. For many people, a bamix® isn’t just any kitchen appliance. It’s part of everyday life. It was there for the first puréed baby food, Sunday cakes, barbecues with friends and Christmas desserts. And then, suddenly, the next generation is in the kitchen.

Why does a bamix® last so long?

We get this question regularly. The answer doesn’t start with the motor. It begins much earlier: where every appliance is made. Every bamix® is manufactured in Switzerland. Step by step. With extensive experience, precision and the ambition to build an appliance that works not only today, but for many years to come. It’s not about producing as quickly as possible. It’s about carrying out every detail with care to create a reliable kitchen companion. That’s why quality at bamix® isn’t a marketing slogan. It’s part of every single step in production. https://bamix.ch/pages/geschichte-seit-1954

A look behind the scenes
How do lots of individual components become a bamix® that goes on to be used in kitchens all over the world? We’ve captured a brief look behind the scenes for you. Behind the Scenes:

Did you know?
The name bamix® is made up of the French words 'battre' (to beat) and 'mixer' (to mix). Since the first bamix® was invented in the 1950s, the basic principle has stood the test of time and continues to be refined to this day.

Is a bamix® worth the price?
Ultimately, only you can answer that for yourself. But perhaps another question might help: How often have you replaced a kitchen appliance even though it should still have been working? Many of our customers don’t have to ask themselves this question about their bamix®. They’re still using the same kitchen helper they bought many years ago. Perhaps that’s the best kind of sustainability: not constantly buying new things, but enjoying something for a long time.

This is just the beginning …

In the next part, we’ll visit a place almost nobody knows about: our service workshop.
This is where bamix® appliances end up after often having served for half a lifetime. Some have stories that continue to surprise even us.

We hope you’ll stop by again.
