What is the bamix® powder disc for? Finely grinding spices

Wofür ist die bamix® Pulverscheibe? Gewürze fein mahlen

What is the bamix® powder disc for?

The powder disc is not an attachment for the hand blender, but an insert for the bamix® Processor. It reduces the volume inside the Processor, allowing small quantities of dry spices to be ground into an especially fine powder—where the Processor alone might produce a coarser result.

A couple of things to note: the powder disc works only in the Processor with the lid closed. And the Processor itself runs only when connected to a bamix® hand blender, which supplies the power.

What the powder disc is designed for

Freshly and finely ground dry spices:

  • Peppercorns and coriander seeds
  • Caraway, cardamom, star anise
  • Turmeric, nutmeg, chili
  • Cinnamon sticks, dried vanilla pod

Freshly ground spices release their full aroma and add more flavor than pre-ground powder.

Powder disc or Processor alone?

The Processor is the actual food chopper and can handle nuts, hard cheese, dried bread (breadcrumbs), turning sugar into powdered sugar, grains, and chocolate without the powder disc—and even moist ingredients such as baby food, pesto, or dips.

The powder disc is an add-on for a specific purpose: turning small quantities of hard, dry spices into an ultra-fine powder.

Tips for the best results

  • Keep everything dry: The disc, Processor, and ingredients must be dry.
  • Use small quantities and short pulses: This produces the most even powder.
  • Choose enough power: For hard ingredients, a more powerful model such as Prime or MAXX is a good choice—see Hand Blender Wattage & Power.

Don’t confuse it with other attachments

Powder disc ≠ hand blender attachments. The multi-purpose blade (puréeing, blending, chopping) and the beater disc (whipping & frothing) attach directly to the hand blender. The powder disc, by contrast, goes in the Processor. For an overview of all attachments, see the attachments overview.

Where can I get the powder disc?

The bamix® powder disc is available separately for CHF 19. You’ll need a bamix® hand blender and a Processor. To see what’s included in each set, visit What’s included in the bamix® set?

Conclusion

With the powder disc in the Processor, your bamix® becomes a spice grinder: freshly ground pepper, nutmeg, or cinnamon in seconds. For everything else—nuts, cheese, bread, sugar—the Processor alone is all you need. Back to the overview: Hand Blender Buying Guide.
